Of Chinese-Irish descent, Albert (30ish – named after Albert Einstein) is a scientific genius and loner with the proverbial heart of gold. Though very attractive to women and surprisingly athletic, he can be a bit socially awkward.
50ish, the flashy Trump-like founder of Fletcher Industries, is an egocentric media celebrity with a, nonetheless, mysterious past. Some speculate he’s angling to become president of the United States. Dictator would be more like it.
Fletcher’s ruthless head of security and chief hit man. He shot Matt Hayes and is in constant pursuit of Albert.
Fletcher’s beautiful and intelligent executive assistant was dating Hayes at the time of his murder – after breaking off her engagement with Albert following a two-year courtship (a further motive for murder). While unaware of Fletcher’s involvement in Matt’s death, she now despises Albert and is happy to help her employer track him down. During the course of the series, she will learn the truth, her loyalties will shift and she’ll secretly help her ex-fiancé as her feelings for him are rekindled.
Albert’s former romantic and scientific rival will reappear in the final episode of the first season when a photo taken by the XLR-8 reveals that he’s still alive! Finding him will become Albert’s quest. As he attempts to clear his name, Matt becomes the one-armed man to Albert’s Richard Kimble.
(Extreme Light Refractor – Model 8) is the camera at the heart of the series. Its strange feature of alerting Albert when to snap photos that reveal significant future events cannot be explained by science. The XLR-8 transforms from its benign, everyday-looking form to the active, future-capturing device. Its multiple lenses unfurl, rotate and animate, searching out future images on its own.
